About the Event
Award-winning author Beena Kamlani's debut novel The English Problem is set against the backdrop of the Indian independence movement and examines the lasting impact of the British raj and how these tensions influence identity and belonging. Her novel was inspired by stories she heard from her family about an uncle who was handpicked by Gandhi to join the fight for Indian independence. She will share a video of Gandhi arriving in London in the early 1930s as well as recently unearthed family photos of Gandhi and Nehru at her grandfather’s home in India.
Kamlani, a Pushcart Prize-winning author and former senior editor at the Penguin Group, will discuss The English Problem as part of AuthorsLive at Greenwich Library with Beth Davey, literary agent and Greenwich resident.
